SANDHURST interview

Formed in 1972 Sandhurst are the UK market leader in the excavator attachment rental space, with over 40 years operational experience.
To take advantage of a well-developed and successful rental formula, in 2012, with the help of an experienced team of access equipment rental specialists Sandhurst expanded into Access Equipment Rental.

To start the new business an initial investment of £ 1.5M was made to immediately make available popular powered and low-level access equipment, essential for servicing the needs of existing customers and of the general market place. Powered access equipment under 20M such as Personnel lifts, Compact electric scissors, Diesel scissors, Rough terrain slab scissors and Articulated booms were all purchased from only a few key suppliers.
One of the most important was Haulotte, who were identified as a major manufacturer supplying Star 10s, Articulated booms and Compact diesel scissors. Initially operating from its Rochester flagship rental centre, within a year, Sandhurst rolled out Access equipment to several of its principal rental centres nationwide.
The company now services Southern England and the Midlands with a rental fleet that exceeds 300v
Few words about when relationship with Haulotte Group and which Haulotte equipments are you currently buy?
From the outset we have received tremendous support from Haulotte and have built strong relationships initially with Ged Kelly & latterly Ian Whittle for which we remain truly grateful. When we set up the Access division, we had a clearly strategy on the product mix that we would be introducing. The Star 10, Diesel Scissors and HA16 Boom lifts were identified as key equipment to our success and so far, we are extremely happy with the performance and utilization we receive from these products.
On which territory are you focusing?
Our focus remains unchanged from the day we started operating. Namely to focus on low level Access providing exceptional service within the Facilities Management sector.
What is your strategy for 2015?
We will be expanding our Operation in the South West of the UK in early march to continue the growth in that area. We will be looking to invest in additional equipment to not only fund the expected growth in the South West, but to continue the growth in the South East & Midlands area.
Did you have big project planned over the coming years?
We currently operate Powered Access from 3 out of 5 existing Sandhurst Depots. We would like to offer the product offering in all locations. This would mean re-locating or expanding in those locations and that will be at the forefront of our strategy in the next 18-24 months.
